Steam duvet

You don't see it, but your bed linen gets dirtier every night. Everyone loses moisture in their sleep through sweating. In addition, skin flakes come off your body due to the rotation. The dust mites that live in your duvet, in your bedding and in your pillow feed on these flakes. Make sure that you wash or steam your duvet once or twice a year, and sleep well again!

Would you like to kill dust mites and bacteria in bedding, but are you afraid of washing duvets at a minimum of 60 degrees Celsius? Then it's good to know that steaming your duvet is also an option. Depending on the material of the duvet, it is best to wash or dry clean it. Therefore, always check the washing label and follow the instructions carefully. This way your duvet will remain wonderfully soft and warm after cleaning.

Do you find it difficult to put your duvet in the washing machine and dryer, or does the duvet not fit in the machine? Then you can choose to take it to the dry cleaner. But if you find this too much of a hassle, you can also let the duvet air out in the open air first and then steam it yourself with a hand steamer. Keep in mind that the clothes steamer is only intended to freshen up and cannot remove stains or moisture from textiles.

In general, it is best to dry clean a wool duvet, because wool has a softening, protective and water-repellent layer called lanolin. Washing irreparably damages this layer and can cause wool to shrink and become stiff.

How does the steaming process work?

An iron can flatten and damage the fibers of a fabric, causing the fabric to wear out more quickly. A hand steamer, on the other hand, has a special pattern on the metal plate, which lifts the fibers of the textile and does not damage it. The hot steam (97-99°C) kills 99% of all bacteria and removes unpleasant odors, so that textiles are wonderfully refreshed. The textile regains its natural shape and remains wrinkle-free, similar to the natural drying process in the open air. In addition, after steaming, the fabric will feel thicker and colors will appear shinier and richer than ironing. Steaming is not only a gentle way to care for fabrics, but also an easier and more sustainable option than ironing.

Last but not least: take better care of the clothes you already have!

Use the right care products to care for your clothes. Do not unnecessarily put your clothes in the washing machine, but for example run a clothes steamer over them to freshen up the fabric, or hang the fabric outside to air out. Does a substance pill? Or is there lint on it? Use a fabric brush or lint remover to breathe new life into the fabric. It certainly doesn't have to be thrown away. Use gentle detergent, without chemicals and harmful substances for your garment. This way the fabric lasts much longer!
